It took almost two years but, Carl Edwards finally got back to victory lane Sunday afternoon in Phoenix. Edwards stayed up front for most of the race and he controlled the final seventy laps from the lead. Next week at Las Vegas would have been the two-year mark since Edwards’ last win but, now that stat is thrown out the window since Edwards has finally got back to victory lane. The race played out fairly calm but, definitely competitive and the last restart with two to go was stand-on-your-feet worthy. Continue reading

Last time the Sprint Cup Series left Phoenix, we had a fight in the garage, Clint Bowyer running and a big mess on the front straightway. Pure excitement that was. Things may be a bit different this time around but, pure excitement always seems to arrive at the Phoenix International Raceway and this Sunday should be no different. After the track was reconfigured in 2011, the excitement has been at an all-time high. The cars can pass just about anywhere and the dog-leg on the backstretch makes for some exciting side-by-side racing. This gem in the desert always puts on quite a performance.

The Subway Fresh Fit 500(k) will take place on Sunday March 3rd, 2013 and the expected time the green flag will wave is 3:14 PM EST (1:14 PM MT). The race will feature 312 exciting laps and 312 (500k) miles. The weather for race day is looking good with partly cloudy conditions and a 10% chance of rain. The high temperature for the day will be 83 F and the low will be 52 F. The TV broadcast of the race can be seen live on FOX and the radio version of the broadcast can be heard on MRN. The Phoenix International Raceway is the site of the second stop on the 2013 Nationwide Series schedule. Heroic

Ordinary NASCAR fans enjoying the Nationwide Series race Saturday afternoon acted heroically when fellow race fans were injured following the last lap crash. No fan expected to be in danger when they entered the Speedway that day but, when disaster struck, fans helped fans to make sure everyone was alright.

In other sporting events, there is little to no evidence that fans have helped each other in the way that some racing fans did following the frightening last lap crash in the Nationwide race. This incident once again proved that NASCAR fans are the best fans in sports. Continue reading

A late race surge helped Jimmie Johnson remain in the front of the pack and allowed Johnson to hold off his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr for the Daytona 500 win. This is Johnson’s second Daytona 500 win; he won the 500 for the first time in 2006. A very strung out raced featured lots of great racing and Johnson played the game perfectly to hold up his second Daytona 500 trophy.

Johnson did not get to the front early but, he got there at the end which is all that mattered. Johnson’s teammate Jeff Gordon led the race on lap one and Gordon stayed out front for much of the first portion of the race. The first caution of the race came out on lap 26 for debris on the backstretch. Gordon held the lead after the pit stops under the caution but, Jimmie Johnson got his first glance at the lead on lap 32. Johnson’s lead was brief since the second yellow-flag came out one lap after he took the lead. Continue reading
