It was throwback Sunday at Daytona International Speedway with an old-school starting time, and an old-school win.

The green flag waved in the morning. Mid-afternoon, Richard Petty Motorsports’ famed No. 43 was back in Daytona’s Gatorade Victory Lane thanks to Aric Almirola’s rain-shortened win in the 56th Annual Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola. Sprint Cup Series Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Preview

The Race to the Chase for the Sprint Cup countdown begins at Kentucky Speedway on Saturday night, as the first of ten races left in the series’ regular season.

Six seats are still available and a win is a virtual lock into the Sweet 16 Chase Grid. With ten winning drivers already on the grid and five of them with multiple victories, there is speculation about whether any new winners will emerge over the next ten races, making points critical for those drivers without a win.

Smaller but Fiercer Michael Waltrip Racing Ready for 2014

The wound from last September’s Richmond race will never fully heal for Michael Waltrip Racing. As much as the team would like to forget their actions from the race, the memory will never fully fade away. However, with the right mindset this team will more than likely move on from the ordeal. MWR is optimistic for 2014.Clint Bowyer has determination to get back to victory lane after a year’s absence and Brian Vickers is set to make his return to full-time Sprint Cup Series racing. MWR Announces Burton to #66 for 2014 Sprint Cup Season

Michael Waltrip Racing announced today it has contracted Jeff Burton to test and drive in a select number of races during the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup season in the No. 66 Toyota Camry.

Burton, a 21-time winner in the Sprint Cup Series begins testing for MWR Dec. 9 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The first scheduled NASCAR Sprint Cup race for Burton will be the March 9 race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

In the upcoming weeks, MWR will announce any other events added to Burton’s schedule. Continue reading

Elliott Sadler to Drive No. 55 for MWR in Final 2013 Races

Michael Waltrip Racing announced today that Elliott Sadler will drive the No. 55 Aaron’s Dream Machine in the 2013 season’s final four Sprint Cup races.

Sadler replaces Brian Vickers, who is unavailable for the rest of the season due to anti-coagulation medications he is taking to treat a small blood clot in his right leg. Doctors indicate Vickers will be on the medication at least two months.

Sadler drives a Joe Gibbs Racing car full-time in the Nationwide Series and begins racing the No. 55 at Martinsville Speedway on October 27th. He will then finish the season with Scott Miller as his crew chief at Texas, Phoenix  and Homestead. Continue reading
