Suárez Rides to Texas Anticipating to Build on his Early Momentum

After a two-week hiatus, the NASCAR XFINITY Series is back in action Friday night at Texas Motor Speedway for the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300. One driver especially excited to get back to racing is series standings leader Daniel Suárez. Kyle Busch Completes Martinsville Sweep with Sprint Cup Victory

Kyle Busch came to Martinsville Speedway this weekend with no grandfather clock trophies from the shortest and tightest of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series short tracks.

He left with two clocks after completing an unprecedented Martinsville sweep in Sunday’s STP 500, and, appropriately, the first question he radioed to his crew after his celebratory burnouts dealt with telling time.

“What time is it?” crowed the reigning series champion, who a day earlier had won the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville in his own equipment. Continue reading

NASCAR K&N Pro Victory At Kern Would Match Gurney’s 50-Year-Old Mark

Todd Gilliland heads to Bakersfield, California, on the hottest winning streak in 50 years.

Even if he doesn’t equal the all-time NASCAR K&N Pro Series mark for consecutive victories to start in the series, the 15-year-old from Sherrill’s Ford, North Carolina, is in pretty exclusive company.

It’s a club that includes two drivers in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, the 2015 Daytona 500 winner and Gilliland. That’s it. In the 62-year history of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series – dating back to the West Series’ beginnings as the Pacific Coast Late Model Series – just four drivers in both the East and West have won the first two series races to start their career. Suárez’s 2016 Start is Comparable to Past Champions

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Daniel Suárez is off to a strong start this season. He leads the NASCAR XFINITY Series championship standings by ten points over second-place Elliott Sadler after the first five races. Suárez’s start in the first five races, is better – and in most cases, far better – than those of the last five series title winners. Continue reading

Austin Dillon Saves Fuel, Wins XFINITY Thriller at Fontana

Seconds after crossing the finish line 0.715 seconds ahead of runner-up Kyle Busch, Austin Dillon summed up Saturday’s TreatMyClot.com 300 by Janssen in one short sentence.

“I’d rather be lucky than good,” Dillon chortled on his team radio after ending evading Busch’s last-ditch attempt to pinch the winning No. 2 Chevrolet into the outside wall at Auto Club Speedway.

And that was just the last stanza of a crazy last lap that saw: 1) Busch slow to a crawl, short on fuel; 2) Daniel Suárez take the lead from his Joe Gibbs racing teammate on the backstretch, only to run out of fuel; 3) Busch regain the lead despite cutting a left front tire on his last lap; and 4) Dillon come from a half-lap down to pass Busch as the drivers approached the finish line.
