The ‘New Atlanta’ is what NASCAR and SMI Envisioned–A Better Race!

The ‘New Atlanta is what NASCAR and SMI envisioned–a better race! But what about the fans? This commentary gives readers fuel for thought. NOTE: Commentary delayed due to illness and recovery issues.

After the end of the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway NASCAR and track owners, Speedway Motorsports Inc. embarked on a multi-million dollar renovation of the facility.  The worn-out surface was repaved.  More critically, the entire track was re-profiled.  The banking in the turns increased from 24 to 28 degrees, and the turns were narrowed by more than ten feet. 

Early in the 2022 season, NASCAR announced that Atlanta would use an engine power and aerodynamic package similar to Daytona and Talladega. In essence, Atlanta Motor Speedway is now NASCAR’s third superspeedway race, despite the track’s 1.5-mile length. A stark contrast to the 2.5 and 2.66-mile lengths for Daytona and Talladega respectively.

After Hamlin DQ, Chase Elliott Earns his Fourth NASCAR Cup Series Victory at Pocono

After Hamlin DQ, Chase Elliott earns his fourth NASCAR Cup Series victory at Pocono Raceway in the M&Ms Fan Appreciation 400 on Sunday afternoon.

For just one time in the 2022 season, the NASCAR Cup Series went into Pennsylvania to race at Pocono Raceway. A venue that is usually slated for two Cup Series races only received one this season with the addition of new races on the schedule. Once more, it is a new track for drivers to try out the next-gen car and many teams entered the weekend unsure of how the car will drive.

After Two DQs, Chase Elliott Wins the NASCAR Cup Series Race at Pocono

After two DQs, Chase Elliott wins the NASCAR Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway in the M&Ms Fan Appreciation 400 on Sunday afternoon.

Chase Elliott has been declared the winner of Sunday’s M&M’s Fan Appreciation 400 at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway after first and second place finishers, Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch were disqualified following a post-race technical inspection.

Tyler Reddick Takes the Checkered Flag at Road America for his First NASCAR Cup Series Victory

Tyler Reddick takes the checkered flag at Road America for his first NASCAR Cup Series victory in the Kwik Trip 250 on Sunday afternoon.

Over the fourth of July weekend, the NASCAR Cup Series heads into Wisconsin for another road course race. NASCAR’s top drivers went 62 laps around the historic road course that is Road America. A long four-mile road course that takes the field down long straight-aways, through tight corners, and around a carousel before coming back up the hill to the start-finish line. It is a fun road course that often has action around every corner.
