downloadRick Hendrick’s journey began on his family’s tobacco farm, a stone’s throw from the small Virginia community of Palmer Springs. It was there, south of Richmond near the North Carolina border, where his father instilled the value of a hard day’s work and a pure passion for the automobile.

Under the watchful eye of “Papa Joe,” that love of cars led Hendrick into the world of auto racing. At age 14, he made a name for himself by setting speed records at a local drag strip with a self-built 1931 Chevrolet. Two years later, the self-described “gearhead” won the Virginia division of the Chrysler-Plymouth Troubleshooting Contest, a competition for engine builders. He was just 16. Continue reading

Last time the Sprint Cup Series left Phoenix, we had a fight in the garage, Clint Bowyer running and a big mess on the front straightway. Pure excitement that was. Things may be a bit different this time around but, pure excitement always seems to arrive at the Phoenix International Raceway and this Sunday should be no different. After the track was reconfigured in 2011, the excitement has been at an all-time high. The cars can pass just about anywhere and the dog-leg on the backstretch makes for some exciting side-by-side racing. This gem in the desert always puts on quite a performance.

The Subway Fresh Fit 500(k) will take place on Sunday March 3rd, 2013 and the expected time the green flag will wave is 3:14 PM EST (1:14 PM MT). The race will feature 312 exciting laps and 312 (500k) miles. The weather for race day is looking good with partly cloudy conditions and a 10% chance of rain. The high temperature for the day will be 83 F and the low will be 52 F. The TV broadcast of the race can be seen live on FOX and the radio version of the broadcast can be heard on MRN. Lowe’s Home Improvement isn’t going anywhere in 2014. Jimmie Johnson has been sponsored by Lowe’s his entire Sprint Cup series career and the company doesn’t look to be going anywhere.

During the Chevrolet SS unveiling at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports, was asked about rumors that Lowe’s would not be returning to his organization. Hendrick was adamant that rumors were false and that he is confident Lowe’s will continue to sponsor Jimmie Johnson in 2014.

“I don’t know where (the rumors) came from, but (Lowe’s will) be back. Wishful thinking, maybe, by some of the other folks, but they’ll be back.”

A new deal between Lowe’s and Hendrick Motorsports has not been signed but both sides are confident they will be together in 2014.

“We’ve got a verbal,” Hendrick stated. “We’ll button it up, but it’s early.”

Jimmie Johnson fans, don’t worry, the blue and white colors won’t be changing anytime soon.
