Dale Earnhardt Jr. to Retire following 2017 Season

Dale Earnhardt Jr. today announced that he will retire following the 2017 NASCAR season.

This morning, NASCAR’s 14-time Most Popular Driver broke the news to his No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports race team, followed shortly thereafter by a press release from Hendrick Motorsports to publicly announce the retirement. According to the release, Earnhardt and team owner Rick Hendrick first met about the driver’s decision on March 29. Continue reading

Evolve, Adapt, and Overcome or Become Obsolete

With the recent announcement of the new format for the Monster Energy All-Star Race to add a tire option, spirited discussions began immediately. After eight races with the new Stage racing at every type of track except a road course, most people have settled on their opinion of its entertainment value and impact on the sport. Some of the calls on the talk shows seem negative, but look at what changes the sanctioning body has made to improve the beloved sport of stock car racing.

From the beginning, NASCAR founder William Henry Getty France, known as ‘Big Bill’ ruled his creation with a ‘Iron Fist,’ crushing two different attempts by the drivers to form a union. The first was in 1961 when Teamsters leader Jimmy Hoffa and star driver Curtis Turner attempted to form the Federation of Professional Athletes prominently featuring NASCAR drivers.  France prohibited any union member from participating in any NASCAR events with authority: Continue reading

Pit Road Penalty Quashes Kyle Larson’s Winning Chances

Kyle Larson broke a record, in a race that ran like … well, a broken record.

Starting from the pole in Monday’s rain-delayed Food City 500 at Bristol motor Speedway, Larson led the first 202 laps of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race. Never before had a driver for Chip Ganassi Racing led that many laps in a single race in NASCAR’s premier series. Continue reading

Harrison Burton Survives the Rain for K&N East Victory at Bristol

Coming into the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, Zombie Auto 125 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday, Harrison Burton had victory on his mind.  Last year, he took the Bristol pole to start the race on the front row, only to experience engine issues that took him out of contention early in the race. Burton and his crew chief Mardy Lindley wanted a different result on Saturday, especially after again starting on pole and leading the field to the green flag at the 0.533-mile track.  Continue reading
